Exit Slip: Orchard Garden Paint Slip Activity

Since mathematics helps us establish a link between theoretical ideas and the physical world we live in, learning mathematics in an orchard garden is essential for nurturing the mind and soul. I was able to collaborate with other class members who shared their interests to exchange ideas on pictures that mirrored their paint strip throughout this session. The take-home message today was engaging with nature fosters wonder and improves understanding of math concepts, which raises the significance and effectiveness of math education.

Our class kept coming back to the subject of angles throughout our chat today. Presenting the notion that, in order to obtain the ideal photo, analyzing angles are essential. Due to the way the sun shines, I've discovered that no two people are the same with relations to their artistic viewpoint. Finding the matching paint slip for the object was equally difficult and impressive. I would stare at the object for a time before attempting to match it with the paint slip. At this point the application of an investigative lens to search for recurring patterns was another skill achieved during this class.

There will always be times in the math classroom for teachers to inspire students to use more than one concept to finish a task. In addition, the serenity of the garden inspires reflection and creativity, both of which enhance mental wellness. Math in the natural world teaches students how to approach learning in its entirety, which promotes academic and personal growth. This was a really fun exercise, and I want to include something similar into my math classes going forward.
