As we go on.... We Remember

Examining all of my blog entries from the EDUC 450 course has helped me to recognize how my understandings as a future educator have evolved. My first focus was mostly on learning the fundamentals of teaching. I then shifted my mindset to relate class concepts to practical classroom implementations. My view on teaching and learning has become stronger as a result of my reflections on issues like creating inclusive learning environments, encouraging student participation, owning student autonomy and putting evidence-based practices into practice. I have gained useful skills that support my mission of enabling students to take charge of their mathematics education thanks to my investigation of inquiry-based practices and collaboration.

The chances to participate in insightful conversations and critically think about theory and practice were, in my opinion, the course's "berries." Collaborative group projects and peer reflection sharing were two exercises that improved my thinking and gave me more self-assurance in my teaching philosophy. However, juggling the workload with my other classes and becoming ill near the end of term are possible "thorns." I have learned that larger tasks feel more doable if they are divided into smaller, scaffolded components. All things considered, I sincerely value how this course forced me to critically examine my teaching methods and gave me resources that I can use both during and after my practicum.
